The counter-culture kings and queens
The children of the night.
The shadow warriors that live a lifetime without fright
Liquor-fueled daydreaming
Fill an emptiness inside.
Breathing life, suburban strife
In full moons they confide
Headlight dreaming, moonlit scheming
Connect the starry dots
Velvet ropes as antidotes
Avoid the sober cops
Sleepy- eyed romantics
All vying for their time
Asked to dance by life itself
Escape your weary mind
Never leave your heart exposed
Never close your eyes
You just might miss your shooting star
A free drink at the bar
Inspired conversations
Forgotten in hours time
As the night it drags along
They’ll quickly fall in line
Waiting for their chance to leave a mark upon the night
The shadow warriors will feel
The urge to take a flight
Reckless abandonment
Towards the dark side of the moon
Some will make it
Some will not
Their lives cut way too soon
The nights enigma and allure
Will surely take its toll
As the lines of time and reason
Eventually get blurred
Eternal two-faced temptress
What was good can turn to bad
At this point of their journey
They cling to memories once had
….
The neon kings and neon queens of yesteryear unite,
Tonight to see the fall of the children of the night
Underexposed, never developed
Celluloid street drifters
Living in forgotten times
Hearts like torn up pictures
The bat-shit crazy lunatics
come marching down the streets
waiting for their chance to get swept right off their feet
the mothers of the long lost children
hold their teary eyes
in palms all red from clapping for the heavenly demise
conflicted feeling run amok
in the city down below
as the neon kings and queens enjoy
a sordid, morbid show
the curtain falls on all who want it
now’s their only chance
to be made fools,
be swept away
by foolish,
young,
romance.
